What’s with the name?
Our name comes from the Greek word in the bible airō (Strongs G142). It has many uses, but the most common one means “to remove” or “to take up” or “take away”.
John the Baptist uses it when he says, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1: 29)
Jesus used this word when he said, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.”( Matthew 16:24)In a much less important but practical sense, we take away what no longer belongs. Consistent pruning back and taking away is needed to keep everything from our souls to our homes clean and uncluttered. So in a nutshell, that’s the “take away”, Airo means to take away, and reminds us of the One who removed what we could not.
